Some of the stuff Cruz points to just seems like reasonable object-level beliefs rather than pandering? I'd be surprised if Cruz (or much of the rest of the right) would have proved more useful/stalwart coalition members - e.g. for SB1047 it seems like a16z et al subverted people of all stripes.
