Yeah, I've been following it closely as well. It's clear that David Lochridge was trying his best in what were very difficult circumstances (later sued by OceanGate).

Failures on the regulatory side are concerning.

The whole affair is a text book example of how not to run a high risk project.

There were mechanical write protect "switches", and on VHS and Beta, these were knock out tabs that required Sellotape to render the cassette recordable again. The Philips system was more refined in that sense.

There wasn't a switch on the cassette IIRC, but the machines did have an XL mode (equivalent to VHS LP) giving up to 400 minutes tape (200 per side).

This was one of their main selling points I think.

I should clarify. V2000 cassettes could be turned over to use the other half of the tape, which meant it needed spool drive on each side of the cassette.

That looks very close to a Philips or Grundig V2000 cassette to be honest. Learning how to repair those machines was undoubtedly the biggest waste of my time ever!
Even Beta gave me a little more return for my efforts. :-)

My commute was 50 minutes each way on a good day. Did it for nearly a decade.

Got a new job where I could walk to work in 10 minutes.

Missed the time I used to spend listening to podcasts, so changed job again to one with a 40 minute commute.

Happy days !

Used to happen to me all the time when I visited Currys back in the mid 2000s. Their blue shirts were the same as mine.

I'll see your Yamaha and raise you Hitachi. Consumer electronics, heavy earth movers, power stations, medical devices and trains, and that's just a few of their businesses!

Sainsbury's Red Label. Tea of champions!

Since 1903 at least (or so it says on the box).

Most well managed pension funds reduced their exposure to the US markets at the end of last year. EU and Japanese bonds are doing well, and this is where they increased their holding.

Assuming your fund managers are doing their job properly, you shouldn't have too much to worry about.

Nah, she's borked. Needs more treats to restart essential services. :-)

Totally valid question. One for the EU INTCEN perhaps?

It's worth reading why Elons grandfather was arrested in Regina back in 1940. Suddenly everything makes perfect sense....

Let's not forget his grandfather was arrested and charged under the Defence of Canada Act in 1940. Read this:
