A year or so back I popped into a shop opposite Newcastle Central Station to buy a paper for my train journey. Bloke behind the counter looked at me like I was the stupidest twat he'd seen in his life when I expressed surprise that they did not sell newspapers. Can't think what gave me the idea.

Made _exactly_ the same move two or three months back, and not regretting it at all. Only minor beef is sometimes hearing the same programme twice a day or what feels like three or four times a week, but I'm coping with that.

I worked in Stoke-on-Trent when they had an independent exec mayor (and "Council Manager" rather than Chief Exec, but we'll leave that); Lab largest group (at least at first), but most of council effectively "opposition" to the mayor. Chaos, most of the time...

Really the music needs to fade out after about 35 seconds, and Richie Benaud or Tony Lewis come in to bid us good morning from Trent Bridge or wherever. That's still pretty much what happens in my mind when I hear that.
