I also feel like this is a story that could have mentioned paid maternity and paternity leave. It could have mentioned men doing more domestically (cutesy references to "helpful husbands" aside). All these women talk sunnily about their day jobs and "having it all" but just "choosing" children.

I love how the woman profiled also wrote a book while "focussing on her family." What?!

If you click through to the bill, you see that C-291 has received Royal Assent but doesn't come into force until 1 year has passed since Royal Assent. It received assent on Oct 10, 2024, so it will be in force (and the online materials duly consolidated with changes) on Oct 10, 2025. Glad to see!

Also, the CC (as you no doubt know) swims along in a literal iteration which is not exactly the manifestation of its force in practice. Cf. Travis Vader.

I'm seeing the criticized term when I look for it on CanLii and see this iterated in the search results when I try to find updated language. What is your basis for believing it has been updated? Also, CASM is a much better term!

It blows that "women can be whatever type of women they want" gets turned into "therefore i won't respect someone's pronouns." :(

I agree! It's absolutely appalling. I *only* know of her in the context of her incredible art & her *absolutely tragic* murder. To suggest that femicide is somehow a romantic impulse slightly misguided... I guess it's honest at least? Just ick.

I do like normalizing the rejection. It's easy to feel alone!

This is such a bonkers, pro-police interpretation considering that most "misconduct" by police officers that would warrant criminal charges in just about any non-police circumstance is handled internally. So none of that is relevant? Right.

It's so boring to represent Alberta as a sea of Conservatives. Look at how many ridings have NDP/Liberals splitting the vote. Look at the percentage of popular support the NDP got in the last provincial election. We're so much more interesting & varied, as a province, that eastern media can imagine.

Scientists are fleeing to Canada; I hope Petrova applies for asylum there.

I wonder if the more effective response (which may be later) is that government agencies RUN on taxpayer's money (i.e., taxes). So why would they be taxed? What purpose would it serve?
