The thing about the orientalist view about middle eastern culture is, its kind of bang on? In certain areas of asia and the middle east (africa as well but I'm not educated enough to say for sure) they use scripture and tradition as an excuse to shackle woman and children.

This reflects the struggle woman face pretty well imo. Most men these days are intimidated by women who out earn them to want to work. And gossip and slander aren't uncommon when it comes to looking above average.
