I have to imagine it was a misinterpretation of the motivation behind his teasing of beecat and akkeri when he asked "have you explored each others bodies yet?" though projection could also play a role.

It's not clear from the ref sheet but I would prefer them drawn more female than male in terms of body type, so no antlers or anything.
