I suck at it.

But, in the end, I finally got to start learning how to type properly using Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing on a Macintosh SE FDHD... like my wife did back thirty years ago.

It was not all sunshine and roses. There were some issues in which Noodles tested my patience with her ignoring some of the SCSI conventions.

Which is an entirely different story.

Two more things I needed were a keyboard and mouse. Which when you hear the word Vintage, you should think EXPENSIVE. So I went another route.

Meet The BlueSCSI emulator and the USB-Wombat.

It was not all easy. In order to get her working properly, I needed to change out her 3.6v 1/2AA Battery, or as they are affectionately known as, "Bombs."

They have a habit of exploding in their old age and destroying old tech.

As you can see in this repeated image, the battery was intact.

She came to me with a working 20MB Hard Drive with System 6.0.5 as her operating system. The hard drive was also manufactured in 1989, so the fact that it worked... it was a miracle.

You should have seen how clean she was inside.

There was almost zero dust accumulated.

Here you see her -- I named her Noodles -- booted up showing her with System 6.0.8 (apologies about the interlaced monitor and photographs) and the astute eye will notice that she has two active SCSI Hard Drives (Noodles and Bento).

Both are 2GB in size (On a computer manufactured in 1989).

Here we see it in my office with the protective dust cover removed.

Yes, that is an @kaceyfish.bsky.social original on my office wall. That is also a huge coffee cup, and Applejack, a cute Cthulhu, a Caterpie, and a whole bunch of light novels and anime figurines.

At BLFC a friend of mine gave me an absolutely awesome gift -- at least for a person like me -- YMMV.

A Apple Macintosh SE FDHD manufactured between 03 Nov 1989 and 13 Nov 1989.

Even more so, it was in spectacular condition as it had been in their closet for years.

Pardon the office mess.

The red thing is the battery on the SE FDHD. That battery was from November of 1989 and miraculously had not exploded.

I get things like this almost daily.

Why is a [supposed] billionaire wanting a ten-spot from me?
October 5, 2024 at 1:27 AM
Since others are doing this. I guess I will measure legs with the rest of you.

This is a reminder that this -- one of the greatest explanations in cinematic history -- exists.

And by extension, this would make anyone who knew anything about these devices cry themselves to death.

There was a time when this was worth it's weight in gold pressed latinum.

Did I also neglect to mention my wife-the most wonderful @kaceyfish.bsky.social -got me a new friend because one of my older long term (over 20 years) friends was wearing down and needs to be retired to protect the rest of her seams?

She is adapting well to modern life.

In 1989 I was on a transport from here to there. Before boarding, I had picked up this book at the BX, and I read about 80% of it and stowed it in my gear.
Afterward, later that night, said book was no longer in my gear and for 35 years I have hunted for a replacement.

Today I have found it.

This thing cheats.

Space Ace on Sega CD is just as annoying as Dragon's Lair was.

You would think because I mastered the LaserDisc version, it would be easy, but no--they changed the timing.
Also, the visuals and sound are so bad, it distracts too much.

Still-done.

If you must play, learn how to use Daphne instead.
