Please excuse my ignorance, but what am I missing here? Are these Oregan National Guard, because I thought that the state National Guards were under the command of their Governor, not the president ? Is there something stopping the Governor ordering them to defend the consitution (against fascism)

Seriously - you still think there is going to be an election - if fascists can't rig it, or lock up the opposition, or muzzle the media, they'll cancel the election on the pretext of being in a state of war (with Portland)

Glad to hear - seriously in 2025 it should be headlines if any charity is NOT invested in alignment with its mission. Seriously, would I want to donate to a charity whose money was invested contrary to its mission; in weapons, fossil fuels; or in companies doing business with Russia or Israel

Anyway - she's also in a jail where the accused controls the DoJ which controls how she gets treated, and when/if she gets out, and of course she knows what happened to her partner-in-crime.
I'm presuming she is only live is because of a "publish-on-death" version of the list stashed with a lawyer.

Exactly - copying twitter's model is the big mistake of Bluesky and Mastodon - 95% of what I read on Facebook is group chat's - because the rest of it is so poor. Many of those groups have moved to Whatsapp - but that's still Meta. Bsky needs group chats badly.

Part of the fascist playbook - has to silence either by action of the threat of action all the main sources of opposition - Military; courts; students; police; media & academia; Cutting funding not only hurts Harvard, the threat of it silences any that are on the fence.

I find it a huge assumption that there will be an election in four years - in fact I doubt there will be one in two.
Fascists get voted in, have they ever been voted out? If there is any doubt of an election's outcome it will be cancelled; rigged; or the opposition leaders locked up.

Every fascist regime needs their concentration camps (or Xentation camps to follow prefered naming), and these have to be one-way, i.e. the fear of being kidnapped (not arrested); then - without any due process - human trafficked (not deported) to a hell-hole from which the only exit is death.

Net Zero by 2050 is largely meaningless for a country whose main contribution to global emissions is not domestic emissions, but the emissions from the fossil fuels it extracts and exports. Drilling and opening more mines is criminally irresponsible during a climate emergency.

I'm a big tea-drinker. There was a report a couple of years ago that listed which brands of tea-bags contained plastics. None of the non-plastic brands were available in my local super markets so I switched to loose leaf,which of course is better for other sustainability and taste reasons anyway.

We dont have an insurance crisis - its not that these houses are uninsurable, it is that they are uninhabitable due to climate change. No amount of tinkering around the insurance system can hide the fact that a house with e.g. a 10% chance of catastrophic flooding each year shouldn't be lived in .
