Tetrapod nanoparticles impose entropic confinement on polymer chains, reducing viscosity in nanocomposites and enhancing molecular mobility. Using rheology, dewetting experiments, and molecular dynamics simulations, we demonstrate how they lower viscosity in long chain polymers.

While concrete tetrapod blocks invite the flow of small water molecules into their arms to protect shorelines, tetrapod nanoparticles in long-chain polymers create space that restricts polymer movement, promoting flow by inducing entropic frustration from chain packing.
