Weeknote 12-14/2025

We've got death in the White House, cataclysmic wrath, faux-Ghibli, getting things in our hands, and just not laughing.

Do I need to be worried about what the other 4% is?

Nine weeks old and the baby already has more books than most Americans.

It’s time for #Weeknote 07+08/2025! We’ve got
God killers, zines, avenging spirits, game-jamming, magical Spaniards, infini-wiki, and not-quite Star Wars.

Our paediatrician always has Ghibli movies playing in the waiting room, which I love. But I can’t help but think they’re not *all* a great choice for tiny children.

Weeknote 05+06/2025

Moon music, pedagogic manifesti, Georgian jungles, massive murmurations, film school begins, kiosks, and D&D takes New York.

Just finished reading Hard by a Great Forest by Leo Vardiashvili. A brutal, heartrending book that’s so beautifully steeped in humanity. Possibly the first book I’ve read set in Georgia (yes, the country)? Incredible to think it’s a debut, too. Also, what a cover!

Weeknote 03+04/2025

Long London, cartooning on the bus, the passing of a great, and bundles of joy.

There was a time long, long, ago, where we said the dog wouldn’t go on the couch. And now he is king of all he surveys. Honestly, I’m very happy with this arrangement.

Have just finished Alan Moore's The Great When - a book fizzing with creativity. I'm never *totally* sure what I've just experienced with Moore but so often that's part of the brilliance. Certainly creatively akin to his spectacular League of Extraordinary Gentlemen series.

Excellent delivery from @thelegogroup.bsky.social to keep us going during night time baby feeds and nappy changes. Let’s hope sleep deprivation doesn’t result in some wonky building! Can’t wait to add it to the rest of our street.

Found Teddy the Dog in full scrunchy mode this morning. He usually makes a nightly tour of his bed, various sofas, and rugs.
January 8, 2025 at 7:14 AM
It makes me think of that scene in Mad Men when Peggy wants recognition for her ideas and Don Draper tells her "That's what the money is for."

Getting the new year going with some Alan Moore smokey London, meta textual, magic weirdness with The Great When.

Seems like an excellent time to finally crack this open.

As he’s not yet on Bluesky, I can safely tell you that this charming platypus is under the tree waiting for Teddy the Dog to unwrap him on Christmas morning.

Still a few fungal friends appearing, even as winter takes hold.

@jowolff.bsky.social receiving a ringing endorsement from the assembled IB Philosophy teachers.

Very pleased to pick up these #UrsulaLeGuin short stories but why is the cover giving me “astrology will cure your ADHD” vibes?

Teddy the Dog being tremendously helpful with the laundry this morning. He may not have opposable thumbs but he sure gets stuck in.

Along the bottom of my computer monitor are Post-its (bright pink) and on each is a project I've currently got on the go for work. I love adding new notes and I love taking a completed one down and sticking it in my notebook. When there's too much space I know it's time to go find something new.

Love the accreted ephemera that barbers, dive bars, and other such spaces seem to accrue. Like technicolour barnacles.

How we *laughed* when George Lucas gave us trade disputes(!) as the great story arc of the Star Wars prequels. And yet, here we are, with Trump gunning to repeat the errors of Nute Gunray and the Trad Federation. Good thing the Canadians have been secretly building an army of clones.
