When you sit on a school board, you get some odd advertising through social media...

In 10 years of living in a Research-1 University town, I have never had targeted promotions to work for a college or university outside of the United States. Since mid-January, I have had advertisements for China, Denmark, and Finland. What changed?

You have to wonder how much Joe Rickett’s is paying The Gazette for this kind of advertising.

I can tell you from an n size of 1, it did not change the redness of Henry County, Iowa when Iowa Wesleyan University closed in the county seat of Mt Pleasant, Iowa. Here are the results of last fall.

If only there was an easily accessible location for a keeping pile of data on US HiEd that could be found for free…lucky for us we have some report from the UN that came out some time…

Found these gems in my “banned book” Little Free Library. Pretty sure they should stay banned.

One week shy of my four year graduation anniversary, I finally published one of my dissertation papers. It faced a number of rejects early on because “test optional would not take hold” and “extracurricular activities would not matter once universities go back to testing.” 🤷🏼‍♂️

Facebook ad targeting at school board members is fascinating.

I am grateful for this chance to do “boots on the ground” education policy.

If you have anything on the best way practices for public schools to compete against universal vouchers, I would appreciate it.

Running for a School Board of a district with 14.5k students reshaped my Facebook ads.

This example is an advertisement for a PE curriculum used by another well-known Iowa district that is being “harnessed” to win them state championships (which they have indeed won a lot of).

If anyone wants a free #HiEd topic that I will never get to in my lifetime, how #HiEd targets parents (and students for that matter) though social media. Living next to Iowa City HS (a lot of R1 profs’ and MD/DOs’ kids), I get these all-day and all year-round.

Just thank me in the acknowledgements

What other fields of study have an internship requirement for graduation that comes at a price of 15 credit hours plus additional fees?

For those not following along on Twitter, this has been a fascinating development to watch over the past 48 hours. It should be book marked as to the importance of "peer review" of journal publications over the "internal review" of reports to stakeholders.

In graduate school, my early research involved school choice/vouchers and how it aided in stratifying society. So when I received this advertisement in my newsfeed, I was not all that shocked to see a local private school say the quiet part out loud.
