Some weird cringe thing.
@mistersneky.bsky.social
She/her, artist sometimes, way too old for this shit.

IDK what I'm doing with my life anymore
Bring that up, and they just clarify that they want "good ideas."

Whatever tf that even means.

Also not like Pixar's entire filmography doesn't consist of films with inherently out there concepts or anything. Even stuff like Up was mocked back in the day.

Fortunately, Internet pundits have proven time and time again to be very poor judges of quality based on Pixar trailers.
April 16, 2025 at 6:35 AM
Would bet actual money that if Dreamworks made this exact movie, it would have been near unanimously praised.
April 16, 2025 at 6:30 AM
I think how Elio does ultimately depends on how good it is and if it gets good WOM. I think there's a chance regardless of what's shown. Remember, Elemental had everything working against it too and wound up doing alright ultimately.

I'll be content if it builds off of Elemental personally.
April 3, 2025 at 2:35 AM
What's crazy to me is that the same people criticizing this were also shitting all over that Elio trailer yesterday. So it's like.. you hate Pixar's originals but don't want sequels either so what the hell do y'all want??

FTR, I agree that Coco doesn't need a sequel, it felt like a contained story.

Out of curiosity, have any new VAs been revealed yet?
March 19, 2025 at 4:24 PM
People also cherry pick when making those comparisons and compare the best CGI in older movies to the worst CGI in modern ones. It's always like Davey Jones vs. modern Marvel slop or some shit. You don't ever see them comparing that to like Dune or Interstellar or any recent films with good CGI.

I'm calling it, this character is going to be complete furry bait a la Nick Wilde and Mr. Wolf.
February 15, 2025 at 8:46 PM
I've seen the opposite tbh, moreso people dunking on it because they hate the designs of the human characters.
February 15, 2025 at 2:52 AM
Elemental was also the 1st original Pixar film to release in theaters after the pandemic, and Pixar was coming off of a miserable 2022 with Lighyear flopping and Turning Red being so divisive. Elio has the benefit of following Inside Out 2, and one has to hope the latter bought Pixar some goodwill.
February 11, 2025 at 3:55 AM
Nah, it's gonna bomb. It's got Jurassic World, Superman, and Fantastic Four releasing close to it, plus Bad Guys 2 two weeks later.

And the latter looks SIGNIFICANTLY better than this.
February 6, 2025 at 5:40 PM
This might be up there with Snow White and Minecraft as one of the worst looking movies of the year, good Smurfing god.
February 6, 2025 at 5:34 PM
It was pretty Smurfing bad, huh?
February 6, 2025 at 5:33 PM
With that being said, we still have to see how Disney markets Elio.
January 30, 2025 at 3:42 AM
Also there were different circumstances w/ Elemental. It was the first Pixar film in theaters since the pandemic, Pixar was coming off a miserable 2022, and Elemental was badly marketed. There was basically little to no hype for it.

2 out of 3 of those things are not true for Elio.
January 30, 2025 at 3:42 AM
Struggling with a (relatively) early game boss only for them to become a common enemy later on in the game when you're much higher leveled and can wipe them out in the blink of an eye.

I don't know what that trope is called or if you know what I'm talking about, but that's always satisfying to me.
January 28, 2025 at 2:32 AM
People are already shitting on it based on its concept, but people shitting on a Pixar film based on its concept alone is nothing new (see: Ratatouille, Up, Inside Out, Elemental as you probably know). And the whole situation.
January 28, 2025 at 1:28 AM
I knew you'd love this movie.
January 28, 2025 at 1:25 AM
And if you really want to go there, we may not even see that style again anytime soon because of the 3 future films we know of from Pixar, Toy Story and Incredibles don't use that style, and the girl from Hoppers looks more like a Laika protagonist to me.
January 28, 2025 at 1:05 AM
Their response is just going to be that the Studio Ghibli style works better in 2D than 3D. I've seen someone make that exact comment, and that was their response.

At least with Elio, most of the movie is probably going to be in space with the alien characters that don't have the bean mouths.
January 28, 2025 at 1:03 AM
While they seem a lot more mixed on Elio and/or complaining about the designs of the human characters.

Because apparently bean mouth only bad if Pixar uses it but Dreamworks using it for Bad Guys is perfectly fine.
January 27, 2025 at 10:15 PM
Actually, Dog Man's got some reviews on Letterboxd, and the word is, it's a pretty solid movie. Not Wild Robot or Puss in Boots tier obviously, but probably more like Bad Guys tier.

Shame it's probably not gonna get nominated for Animated Feature next year b/c of a January release.
January 27, 2025 at 9:56 PM
Oh, that wasn't aimed at you, that's just what they were saying.
January 27, 2025 at 9:51 PM
Oh, no, no, Megamind 2 doesn't count because that was their television studio that made it and not DreamWorks Animation themselves. 🙄
January 27, 2025 at 9:49 PM
Even I agree that DreamWorks is a lesser evil, but I HATE that the "animation is cinema" crowd seems to see them as the plucky good guys standing up to "evil" Disney and "evil" Pixar, like?? They ain't your friend either y'all.
