Personally, I always thought it would end up a beloved cult classic that not many people know about. It's just that it was so against the grain for Star Fox, and it began to downfall of the series that soured it in so many people's eyes.

As I said, I don't think that loving an IP translates to supporting the IP holder's bad behaviour. So if you still want to do KH, I'd say go for it, but don't feel you have to if it makes you uncomfortable.
And if you don't, I'm always down for more Sonic stuff, as you know. :D
