I support the WGA writers going on strike. Props always had a chair set up for them at video village. Nowadays it’s only on special occasions. They deserve so much more. However, this strike feels different. The landscape has changed and there’s tons of produced content out there. Tough fight ahead.

This is so embarrassing

It’s crazy that I’m casting an illegal HD stream of Game 7 with minimal effort and zero hiccups because the TNT app craps out every time you try to cast the game. Like some script kiddie in Canada is offering a better UX than an app from a billion dollar corporation.

Kind of dumb that HBO/WB/Discovery makes you download and set up a whole new Max app rather just pushing out a software update for the old one…

Using https://www.beachdibs.com for the first time. Reserving beach umbrellas ahead of time in Greece has always been a pain. BeachDibs streamlines the process. I hope more locations and islands jump on board.

Title: Star Trek: The Original Series - The Great Vulcan Cleanse

Logline: Spock's Vulcan cleanse is wreaking havoc on the USS Enterprise as the crew struggles to adapt to his new dietary choice: eating massive quantities of garlic.

Nisos didn't close because it was "too high-end," since Lyra also charges ridiculous prices for uninspired Greek cuisine two blocks away. Nisos closed because the food was not that great. https://chicago.eater.com/2023/5/17/23727472/nisos-prime-steakhouse-randolph-street-west-loop-parker-hospitality

In 2016 a tech startup was trying to poach me as a producer. In the interview CEO said he was revolutionizing video. Asked me to pitch an idea that will move his “revolution” forward. Asked him to pay/license me for it. He said I “just squandered a chance
to be at the forefront” of his revolution.

I don’t think enough Americans realize how critical Sunday’s general election in Turkey is for the western world. Ince’s withdrawal makes Erdogan losing suddenly a very real prospect. The outcome has huge implications for Ukraine, NATO, and the EU. The pendulum swings west if Kilicdaroglu wins.

Interesting approach towards combatting Russian propaganda in Estonia: fund local and reliable Russian-language media instead. (from the May issue of Monocle Magazine)

So you know what’s an underrated cafe? The Table at Crate. If you’re at a mall, are hungry, and don’t want to eat overpriced fast food at CPK or Nando’s, Crate & Barrel’s restaurant has really decent food and a great Bloody Mary.

I think the last good content curation app was Zite before it got acquired by CNN. Flipboard didn’t come close to Zite’s ability to recommend both interesting news AND interesting blog posts from people you’ve never heard of on a wide range of topics.

Parents of BlueSky: have you noticed that it’s been increasingly difficult to find the “highly recommended” baby products in physical retailers to try them out? Like, “spend $1000 on this stroller but online only and no returns if opened or assembled.”

Blood Fever just started on #AllStarTrek. Since every Star Trek series has a Pon Farr episode, we can assume there is a serious Vulcan incel problem on starships. Why won’t Starfleet let Vulcans fuck? What are they hiding?

I understand that people want this to be Twitter when Twitter was new. When Twitter was new, social media was also new, so curated personalities, siloing, and tribalism weren’t prevalent. Not the case with Bluesky. I think Bluesky would make for an interesting sociological study. 1/2

Just got rear ended and thankful I live in a place where the police will come investigate and do a report even if no one is injured. LAPD once told me to figure it out ourselves and the guy who rear ended me claimed that I reversed and rammed into him. That was a fun trying to disprove.

The biggest trend I’ve noticed during this leisure travel boom is how people still budget their trips with pre-Covid price points. Furthermore, even though prices have gone up 20% to 30% across-the-board, the dollar amount increase is significant enough that people view that as “double the price.“
