The way alleged murderers get compassionate backstories while women are scrutinised for just existing… says it all really.
Neighbour Alan Parker painted a picture of a helpful man that helped fix any mechanical problems he was having. Field he said, took his children fishing and into the outdoors. In 2018, when Field set up his company, he said on the business webpage that he had 12 years experience as a heavy diesel mechanic and had spent six years as workshop foreman at a "major truck workshop" in Palmerston North where he oversaw a team of ten mechanics. Too often, the systems designed to protect us fall short. I'm driven to help strengthen the Harmful Digital Communications Act so that it's more robust, truly safeguards victims of abuse and harassment, and continues to evolve with the realities of the digital world Netsafe plays a vital role in leading that change, and I want to contribute my passion, my lived experience, and my understanding of how online harm impacts real lives to help shape a safer, more equitable digital environment for everyone. As former Mayor of Wellington, I bring extensive governance and leadership experience across complex public, regional, and corporate settings. I chaired the Council that delivered a $12 billion Long-Term Plan, was a key member of the Water Committee and AoG group establishing the new water entity for the Wellington region, and collaborated with fellow leaders through the Wellington Mayoral Forum. I also served on the Boards of Wellington Airport and Täwhiri Arts, strengthening my expertise in strategic oversight, stakeholder engagement, and cross-sector collaboration. Alongside my governance experience and my role as Chief of Staff for the Green Party during the 2017 and 2020 coalitions, what I bring most importantly is lived experience. For three years, I was the target of a sustained, gendered disinformation campaign that sought to destroy my character while I served as Mayor. The content was often violent, dehumanising, and deeply harmful. Having personally engaged with Netsafe through the Harmful Digital Communications Act process, I experienced firsthand the value of their support and advocacy. I now want to use that experience to help strengthen both the legal protections available to victims and the services Netsafe provides.

The absolute gall of the man. There are a number of genuinely good people who missed out on being a councillor (myself included), whereas this absolute buffon throws it in our faces with comments like this. Unbelievable.
Regarding a second shot at the mayoralty, Chung says it's too early to say. "This job [as a councillor] isn't as satisfying as previous jobs I've held. I'd like a job that gives me a lot of satisfaction. So I'll consider it."

Surreal but genuinely lovely to welcome our new Mayor and Council at today’s inauguration. Handing over the chains to @andrewlittlenz.bsky.social felt like closing a very meaningful chapter, one I’ll always carry with me. I truly wish the team the best as they take the reins of our beautiful city.

Joined Whakaata Māori to talk election turnout and while I’m proud Wellington had one of the highest at 49%, it’s still low AF. Let’s ditch private election companies. Accidentally excluding Māori Ward candidate bios is beyond unacceptable & don’t get me started on postal ballots. 1/2

For safety reasons, all Council facilities including libraries, pools, landfill, recreation centres and community centres will be closed all of tomorrow. Rubbish and recycling collections will go ahead at this stage, however, we recommend holding off until next week's collection if you can. Visit the Council's website for more information about facilities and services impacted by the severe weather warnings. Here's what you need to know: Be careful walking, cycling or driving - there could be surface flooding, debris, fallen trees, powerlines, or damaged infrastructure. Coastal roads may be impacted by high swells - be particularly careful when driving. .. Rubbish and recycling collections are planned for tomorrow, but we recommend, waiting until next week's collections. Just got sent this from an article by Bryce Edwards. This is completely false, and he never once fact-checked it with me. My campaign was run by me and my small volunteer team. Comments like this reflect a tired mindset that assumes women can’t succeed in politics without a man pulling the strings.

What a hugely disappointing response from the Mayor. He labels candidates as sensitive and saying abuse comes with the territory. This attitude is why things won’t change. Poor leadership.
Mayor Weston Kirton said one of his hoardings had been pushed over or blown down, but he had not personally faced harassment. No-one condoned harassment, he said, but "it comes with the territory" "This campaign is no different than the past where some candidates are more sensitive than others. My experience of the reception from the public so far has been great and positive."

Tonight me and my whānau got to see the official mayoral portrait done by Pōneke artist, Clark Roworth. This felt like a lovely end to this chapter with my mana intact and we will leave behind a progressive long term plan for the next council. I’m proud of of us 💚
