I was able to start it right after. I had to know how Octavia Butler envisioned that timeline continuing. I thought it was insightful and realistic to what would occur with a dangerously changing climate and the increased social extremes that would emerge from it

It made me realize that I don't know if I could survive. I just bought two books about edible native plants in my area so maybe with some foraging I can be more confident in lasting a day or two!

It seems that stories of people calling for help, and end up being hurt or killed happen weekly, not that much news coverage. It also leads me to thinking of the Uvalde school shooting where the police refused to go into the school to help. It made it clear they are not obligated, and won't help.

This really stood out to me too. I didn't think I've read others taking about the consequences of climate change in such an honest way.

I also think the description of how the police work is really not far off from reality today. Only the rich have access to their services such as investigating. If you are not rich enough, it can be dangerous to seek their help.

I thought she described the relationship between government and everyday people well. The distance being so big between the two, you just know the government isn't thinking of your hardships.
