Sonic just kind of is who he is while Shadow is who he is due to his upbringing I think

I get it but according to shadow generations dark beginnings shadow was always kind of a melancholic dude and seemingly most of his good nature comes through learning from maria and doesnt come naturally, not to mention the fact that sonic doesnt really have a backstory

I will say though I think having the anti-character not literally being an evil them but being an imposter with their own views is super cool as well

WHICH I think is a perfect use of the anti-character trope, it should reveal or criticize the actual character and not just be "im you but evil!!!!!!"

Something cool about the X is that it is a direct criticism to who Samus was in Metroid 2, with it hunting Samus the same way she does to Metroids and placing herself in the shoes of the metroids

Metroid Fusion as a whole is a criticism of the way samus used to be and thats really cool

Honestly hot take i dont think shadow really fits this trope even in sa2 (although he definitely started as anti sonic in his conception his concept art is proof.) he doesnt really look too similar to sonic and his story doesnt really echo sonics
