Also, I believe Suzanne Collins when she says she had never heard of Battle Royale prior to people throwing that accusation at her cause BR is not exactly what I would call a mainstream work in the US.

I’ve talked about this endlessly, but both books exist in different political contexts and have different sources of inspiration that their similarities end at the surface level of “teenagers forced to fight to the death.”
