##socialdeterminantsofhealth are powerful. I have patients who can't afford their medication, new shoes, or are homeless. Of course, these things affect their healing rates and their mental health. I wish everyone had a level playing field.

Exactly. What did they think they would accomplish while hating on others?

Many plantations in the south have been repurposed, and their true history erased. I will not tour their grounds or ever support them. If we had tackled our horrendous history head-on, I believe we would not be in this pickle so many years later.

This week, I've been grieving the loss of a student found hanging from a tree on a Mississippi campus. I'm doing what I can to narrow the disparities of health in my community, but there are times like this where it feels like a drop in the bucket.

Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) like heart disease, cancer, lung disease and diabetes account for 7 out of 10 deaths worldwide.

NCDs kill 43 million people every year, of whom 18 million are under the age of 70.

As a Mississippi doc, the current disparities of health are the residual of slavery and Jim Crow. We can not forget. We must teach all generations about the atrocity that built America. We need to do better.

The only seasoning MAGA should be allowed is Mayo. MAGA should be turned away from enjoying southern soul food, Latino, African, Middle Eastern, or any other well seasoned food. If you dislike others so much, you don't get to enjoy their food. No seasoning for you.

In 2004, shy student me had the opportunity to meet and take a picture with then mayor @governor.ca.gov

Newsom has always been a trail blazer. He allowed same gender marriages before the rest of the country. My hope is that his current efforts in CA will trickle into places like MS.

Today, I spoke at a local senior center about diabetes and lower extremity health. I was astounded that this community had no grocery store. There was a dollar general and a gas station. The closest grocery store was in next community 20 minutes away.

Since we passed the Affordable Care Act, Republicans have tried over and over to repeal it. And over and over, they’ve failed — in part because millions of people now depend on the ACA for quality, affordable health care.

Today, my lovely patient and his wife came for a follow-up. He thanked me profusely for the surgery that saved his foot. He then goes on to say, "well I hope things get better with Trump". It took everything out of me to not say, "because of this administration's cuts to Medicaid, this and other

Today, the body of the beloved hospital physician was laid to rest. I hugged his wife and let her know how kind he was to me, how he made me feel listened to, how he respected my opinion, and bragged on me to others. I will cherish that forever. May we all aspire to his kindness and generosity.

Today, I found out a talented physician passed away. He dedicated his whole life to healing his Mississippi community, and I had the opportunity to treat him. He was kind, appreciated my knowledge set, and spoke kindly about me. He will be missed. This one hit hard.

The presidential fitness test is yet another stupid, superficial “solution” to a much deeper problem about the lack of opportunity for Americans to exercise.

Working two jobs to pay the rent? When are you meant to exercise?

Local park isn’t safe? No sidewalks? Where are you meant to exercise?

As a wound healing and limb salvage specialist in Mississippi, removing Medicaid will lead to more amputations, more families losing their homes, and more deaths. Blood is on this administration's hands. My colleagues and I will do what we can to help the forecasted onslaught of uninsured patients.

Thank you for sharing your story. There are so many similar cases of working folks suddenly losing a job or being underemployed or underinsured. This is very common and can happen to anyone. We need social safety nets.
