Welfare Benefits Adviser.
I don't understand why the journalists don't call him out on this

Exactly, and it's Chinese NGOs that are stepping up to fill the gaps left by the US, building their soft power in the region.

He's totally missing a sense of humour. It's quite unnerving.

I'm hoping this rule won't apply to young people on DLA, only new claims for PIP.
(I mean, I'm not hoping it applies to new PIP claims iykwim)
Because what happens if you get a cancer diagnosis at 19? Or a life changing accident at 20?
It's completely unworkable.

Will she be migrated over to UC? People claiming income related ESA are being moved to UC. She may be better off in that she could work without risk and would have a work allowance so she could earn a certain amount before her benefits began to reduce.
I totally agree that benefits are too low BTW.
March 17, 2025 at 5:58 PM
This is only true for ESA. People claiming Universal Credit and PIP can work without losing their benefits.
There's no 16 hour rule with LCWRA.

If they're on UC, they wouldn't be getting Housing Benefit.
You're almost always better off working more hours on UC (unless you have very high childcare costs)
March 17, 2025 at 8:08 AM
Exactly this. But even if you're in the 'can't work' group (LCWRA), you can still work if you want to or feel able. It just means that UC won't expect you to work.

You can earn £404 a month before your UC is affected.

If you don't have a disability/illness or caring responsibilities you have to earn at least £892 a month otherwise you're required to search for more work.

Worth reminding everyone that Citizens Advice are a charity and not funded by the Government.

Me and my husband use 'Ahoy-hoy' like Mr Burns.

Think they've got until them end of 2025 for ESA, but Tax Credits have to be done by April.
It's a huge task.
January 31, 2025 at 4:14 PM
Absolutely, and your LCWRA will carry on as normal.
The reviews stopped due to lockdown and I've no idea when they're going to start again. Maybe once everybody's been moved over to UC?
January 31, 2025 at 3:19 PM
The only thing that changes after 1 year is the transitional protection for savings if you have over £16,000.
Then, after a year, your UC will end.
January 31, 2025 at 3:15 PM
He's given you wrong advice. You've got LCWRA (Limited Capability for Work and Work Related Activity) as you were in the Support Group. This means you're not required to work. This won't change unless you have a review, and they're not currently reviewing anyone.
January 31, 2025 at 3:13 PM
Could you contact your local Citizens Advice? They will know of any local support and will be able to give you food vouchers.
Sorry you're going through this.
