I find myself liking the entire cast of characters by the end of the book, even though every one of them is a manipulative asshole in their own right.

The Rest:

OB weaves a few basic core conceits together well to finish this book. The characters continue to get fleshed out throughout the back half of the book. The duel mysteries left unexplained at the end of the book are tantalizing enough for me to read the sequel.

Finished it. The subplots lack clarity. I’m not so sure how I feel about a renown assassin growing a conscience. I love that, aside from the King and Perrington, it feels like women are driving story points. It’s refreshing to see traditional, fantasy story arc roles filled by women instead of men.

I wonder if her talents lie in evoking emotions she’s intimately familiar with. I continue to dislike her insistence on quixotic spellings of common names.

Chapters The Rest Of The Fucker:

There’s something in Nesta’s story that I resonate more with than Feyre’s. I’m not sure what it is, I’ll need to digest the story more before figuring it out I suspect. I’ll have to chat with friends to flesh out my feelings.

Chapters 24-41:

Ok, Sarah clearly knows what her audience enjoys at this point. Fuck me if that isn’t fire though. On another note, it’s fascinating to see her choices when she has another opportunity to take a character through a power arc again. The differences in storytelling are stark.

This story would’ve ended nicely with either ending that Sarah delivered, but by writing both, I am unsatisfied. I hope the following books rectify those feelings.

The Rest, because fuck me I guess:
I have a pet peeve about authors who attempt to deliver multiple endings for their characters. The death of an invested character should have weight. When a character death is undone, much of the emotional turmoil I experience feels cheapened.

Chapter 16-28:
This Nesta arc is sending me right now. The stories that Sarah is setting up are delectable and I will be very disappointed if she leaves us hanging.

Chapters 1-15:
I really had it in my mind that most of this book would be Feyre undermining the Spring Court, but that seems to have just been the hook to get the reader into the next book? That Ianthe vengeance was delicious. The High Lady entrance was very nice as well!

Book End:
My god Sarah leaves us with one hell of a different understanding of the characters at the end of this one. This is the sort of power fantasy I live for. It will be interesting to see how Sarah resets the power curve in the next book.

End of Chapter 55:
So this was the fabled chapter 55. If I ever questioned if I was into men as much as women, this answered that. I hate that I’m bracing myself for the other foot to drop after so much fun happened.

End of Chapter 44:

I am so fucking deep in this book. I have not been this engaged with a book in a long time. I really appreciate the character fleshing out Sarah’s doing. The first book had almost entirely one note characters and it was very distracting.

Chapter who the fuck cares:

If I don’t get a cassian and nesta book I will riot

Chapters 16-20:

Oh so the dark brooding character is the most well adjusted of the bunch? I guess I don’t have to be so mad at him anymore? Fucking fine. Him and Mor are definitely hot enough.
