Less of a focus on realism/hyper-realism, which I suppose would have been because of limitations at the time, but I feel like it produced so many uniquely stylised games. That’s what draws me to indie games these days!

Ooh I always find UI sounds so difficult. They’re the biggest offender for liking the sound in the DAW but hating it in game 😆

Generally a fun challenge though! No doubt that cat pics will help 🐈

Interesting! One of those things that I've never even considered 😅 Looking good! Digging the visual style.

They all look so drinkable 🤤 I love the colours on bottom right. I’d say that’s my second favourite behind apple 🍎

It's one of the things that inspires me the most when working on games. And as a player, this kind of world-building really draws me in.
I don't know how many times I've been up at 2am reading the Trivia/Lore section of the Terraria wiki. Steam doesn't track those hours.

At my previous job I was so excited when I found wiki articles and YouTube videos/comments discussing and theory-crafting about the mob sounds I made on Minecraft Dungeons. (Fans of the franchise talking about the lore implications of the sounds my throat made. How cool is that?)

Plus the methods for executing this are endless - Simple suggestive sound design? Great. Hiding codes in sound spectral data? Incredibly fun. LACK of sound?? (I always found it super eerie how Khezu didn't have a musical theme when I played Monster Hunter on the PSP).

It's such a fantastic way to engage the community and immerse them in your game world. Players love to find secrets, and when information is incomplete, they love to try piecing the puzzle together themselves.

"Does the end-game boss sound kinda similar to the mysterious relic at the centre of the first village, or am I just imagining it?"

"Why is the character's voice different when they use the Corrupted Dagger weapon?" (random examples)

One of the best feelings as a game sound designer is when the game's community engages with the sounds you've designed. Games with rich lore offer so much opportunity for fun and intriguing sound design. It's a great way to reinforce the world-building and tease at hidden secrets
