Head of science at WRHS, teacher of A level biology (OCR), BTEC app sci, GCSE bio and comb sci (AQA) 🔬
We very much enjoyed our faculty meeting cake sent by @educake.bsky.social as our pupils answered over a million questions between September and May.

@teacherhead.bsky.social's talk on some key walkthrus was definitely my highlight of #ResearchEdWarr today

Today I learned the etymology of the word "gas" from an episode of @tpwky.bsky.social about the bends (an illness that didn't exist in humans until the industrial revolution) and I love it and you should all know about it.

🎗️March is endometriosis awareness month.🎗️

Endometriosis is as prevalent as diabetes, but is pitifully funded and chronically under researched.

What can you do as a science teacher to raise awareness?

I was inspired by @simonpoliakoff.bsky.social 's talk at @ttradioofficial.bsky.social connect to film my explanation in a rates lesson this week using the worksheet students would use.

This meant I could pause and re-play to do an I do/ we do. I could circulate the room helping while explaining.

51 of our A level biologists had a lovely day sampling at the beach.

Data loggers used to measure soil temperature, light intensity, salinity. Keys used to help measure abundance and to examine succession. Samples taken to measure pH back in the lab. Kite diagrams pending! 👩🏻‍🔬

@teachertapp.bsky.social I feel like there should be some sort of celebration for this. 1000 days in a row!

(Don't look at how many tips I haven't read)

The crossover we've all been waiting for

I love how simple this practical is. 1) Nail varnish the bottom of a leaf. We used a spider plant
2) Peel off the varnish with sticky tape
3) stick the tape onto a slide. No stains or coverslip needed
4) view stomata!

We brought some science magic to the staff talent show on Tuesday. Our sixth formers did a great job organising this charity event, and hearing a hall full of students chanting "science" would warm the Grinch's heart.
