I think this part I notice the most - late night eateries.

My theory is that Covid gave people the chance, some for the first time, to get into a natural sleeping rhythm that wasn’t tied to shift work schedules. And that naturally leads to more people waking with the sun

It’s definitely true. We ordered a year worth of laptops up front, normally we order in as needed batches. We can’t be the only ones who spent this way.

The fact that El Salvador did more due process than we did should scare us all

If anything I think she did a good job avoiding a ton of his bait & she didnt let him take up all the space in her pitch. The problem was she lacked a vision and solutions people craved. Atp a large enough population really would rather encourage a revolution then keep things headed the way they r.

This part *especially* was status quo defense. But also the tightest rope for her to walk

We make the products they sell, they absolutely need us. And ultimately a Billionaire wants to live in certain places and have access to capital and influence. As long as the US remains the dominant consumer they will play ball and pay the cost because its still worth it $$$.
March 17, 2025 at 3:29 PM
We didnt want a bit more, we want someone making the arguments billionaires shouldnt exist in our system at all. That no one needs *that* much wealth because look at what happens when they do. We needed someone who could say this is what you can have when they pay their share. That we all benefit

Honestly Harris should have brought in Elizabeth Warren and said tell me what the fuck to do, please. A Warren message would have worked.
March 17, 2025 at 3:15 PM
I think both things can be true. The countries moving to the right *and* to the left, because of polarization. I think less people wanted the meet in the middle approach Harris offered and wanted more of a revolutionary option full stop. GOP provided that, we offered status quo meet in the middle.
March 17, 2025 at 3:11 PM
Exactly. She should have been out there saying we're going to tax Elon musk and Sheldon Adelson, and Peter Thiel, and all these billionaires propping up this man whos' made promises to them. Musk made it *so* easy, but they still wanted to treat him like a govt contractor lol
March 17, 2025 at 2:58 PM
If they had leaned in hard with Walz and brought in Bernie and AOC, went hard on *solutions* they would have won. 20k for 1st time buyers? We’re all too cynical for that. The market would adjust. Medicare negotiating prices of rx? Cost centers would move, the industry won’t allow a drop in rev.

Her message was essentially the status quo is cool and awesome and brat, and let’s do more of that with a sprinkle of issues that might just maybe possibly marginally help some of you sometimes. I’m not a Trump fan - but her message was let’s keep doing what we’ve been doing but make it ladylicious.
