Immigrant. Still calculating the damage I have caused.
Well, you wrote "Antisemitism is" followed by what antisemitism isn't, so maybe you did need me to point it out. Words matter.

It's nice how quickly you brought hostility into a conversation. Thanks for that. I really tried to express I meant it in a constructive way, because we all want the same.

I'm absolutely with you, but we need to be careful to not ignore that there is actual antisemitism and that the conflation of the term with the criticism of Israel did increase that real kind of antisemitism. I think you meant to challenge exactly that conflation, but it could be misunderstood.

We are confronted with non-theoretical tyrants proclaiming to fight for Christianity and Judaism and you think the lack of religion would cause problems.

Religion is one of the tools tyrants use to force compliance. Why not direct your worries towards the abuse of organised religion instead?

The belief in gods or "higher powers" on the other hand has often led to atrocities and abusive power structures.
You can extend the beliefs in higher powers to white supremacy or subservience to "the party" etc. None of this is related to humanism.
January 14, 2026 at 2:39 PM
You imply that the belief in a higher being reigns in the human tendency to accumulate and abise power. Please provide examples.
You also completely ignore that humanism does not just equal atheism. Humanism never held any power so there is absolutely no precendence of what it would lead to.

BB must be top for me for animation style, apart from some Visions episodes.
January 14, 2026 at 12:37 AM
I wasn't sure about the anime-style slapstick etc, but I decided to just run with it.
Rebels was hard after having started with CW but I accepted it more when I got into the story/characters.
CW first few seasons painful to watch in the 2020s, but at least it's its own style (and it gets better!)
January 14, 2026 at 12:36 AM
I actually think it all makes more sense.

Episode III Anakin is half as annoying if you add Anakin from the last few seasons of The Clone Wars.

I watched pretty much all of it, but not in chronological order.
("In any order I please", just like the Distant Echos guys)

Resistance is fun. I would give it a go.

The history of humanism is riddled with dictators I take it? Any names?

Germany since 1957. I didn't know all German elections since then were a scam!!
January 9, 2026 at 5:49 PM
This is just a guess, but it says the "previous" BBC editor has changed his name since the original post and hasn't deleted it. I would assume the name change was due to moving to STV and that's how the post now appears.

I'm sorry you had to experience that. I'm convinced that Scotland has a growing problem with the kind of ethno-nationalism we see in other parts of Europe. The anti-refugee protests show as much.

I just never experienced it as a strong force in the independence movement which I was referring to.
December 30, 2025 at 4:03 PM
That's exactly why I hate people saying the independence movement is no different to the ugly nationalism we see elsewhere. If you live here and feel Scottish, people happily accept you as Scottish (proud of their country). The racism we see more of now in Scotland comes mainly from unionists.

I think there's an issue here with NHS and "UK" because of devolution. In Scotland you can't choose a consultant. The GP creates a referral to the health board and you get an appointment sent through to see a specialist. You can get a second opinion if there are issues but there is no initial choice
December 29, 2025 at 12:58 AM
Btw there is no NHS for all of the UK and it could be different in England.
You would also have the right to a second opinion if you don't trust the consultant you got allocated.
December 29, 2025 at 12:51 AM
I could never choose a consultant in NHS Scotland. In Germany everyone's compulsory health insurance allows you to choose consultants and it was a shock to just have to hope to get someone good, but the standard of care is high (apart from waiting times). And you can add on private health insurance!

Wondering why some people just don't have decency, but pretend they're nice.

If anything you exemplify what I criticise, the believe that every child can catch up easily. Do you have proof that less schooling has no impact on outcomes?
I'm from a country where kids repeat school years if they fall behind and have seen a friend find their feet again after a period of illness.
December 14, 2025 at 12:15 AM
But how many children arrived in second year having skipped the first year of school AND have no English?
There should be more attention to every child's individual circumstances and not a general assumption that it will be fine. The boy is 10 months younger than my son. He could be a year below.
December 13, 2025 at 6:47 AM
Hi didn't though, it took him around 2 years to say a single word in English and he's still behind academically. I'm sure trauma played a part, but I think skipping a year of schooling was also an issue.
I get this is an unusual case and I know most kids pick up English really quick.
December 13, 2025 at 6:40 AM
I think that makes sense. I studied linguistics a lifetime ago (and without gaining a degree) and I don't think many people in Scotland today speak pure Scots, but most also don't speak pure English. It does seem a mixture.
BTW, I think Scotland should do more to keep Scots alive not just Gaelic!
December 12, 2025 at 2:42 PM
I got that. Just wanted to point out that it's a ridiculous explanation for the graph because it ignores half the story.
December 12, 2025 at 9:40 AM
There were two parts to the data, first language and fluent use of the language. I don't know if they used the correct numbers of course.
December 12, 2025 at 9:38 AM
Haha, stopped clocks, so true!
