Contemplative indie tabletop games: HER ODYSSEY, GALATEA, UNTITLED MOTH GAME, & more. Worldbuilding examination. Character and roleplay theory. Opinions about fonts. She/her. You look lost, follow me. https://mirror-lock.com & https://mirror-lock.itch.io
I’ll be posting this again closer to PAX, but just so you know, I’ll be wearing these pins while I’m there! I don’t expect anyone to recognize my face on sight, especially behind a mask, so I figured I should try to look the way I do on the internet.

Look what arrived safe and sound! A perfectly normal copy of a solo book-defacing RPG that will definitely not take its vengeance on me. Thank you @backwardsttrpg.bsky.social!

What, will these hands ne'er be clean, etc.

Contrast with the prints on the final paper, which still have that organic hand-printed look, but are much more solidly printed. The final paper is so thick and creamy, and (as you'd expect from letterpress) the words are slightly indented into the surface. It's a lovely tactile experience.

The first practice proof that we pulled! The paper for the proof sheets was thinner and glossier than the intended final paper, so it didn't take up all the ink as firmly as the final product would. I like this aesthetic, though - quite battered and weather-worn.

We inked it with red, obviously. We were printing on a Vandercook cylinder press, which was very easy to ink - dab a thin line on the top cylinder, then let the machine run until the ink distributes evenly on all the cylinders.

For my print design, I chose a quote from Macbeth ("Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow...") and played with font to emphasize the growing hopelessness and weariness in those lines.

Manual kerning is finicky enough in Affinity Publisher. Doing it physically is even more of an endless rabbithole!

A few days ago I attended an intro to letterpress workshop, and greatly enjoyed it! I had a bit of an advantage with the basic terms and concepts given how many of them I'm already familiar with from digital publishing and PDF.

The workshop had some beautiful typefaces in its cases.

Who's excited for spooky season? 🎃✋

Who's also struggling with SAD and and feeling overwhelmed by the sheer number of small tasks to juggle every day? ✋✋

If you're interested in a tiny game that encourages mutual accountability through hexing your friends, keep a sharp eye out here next week... 👀

I figure that MtG art cards are equally evocative and provide a good substrate for symbolism and interpretation.

I took a browse through their fantasy section and these two books are coming home with me! Next time I’ll need to bring a bigger purse

I don’t expect anyone to recognize my face on sight, especially when masked, so I came up with a different solution for identifying me at PAX Unplugged this year…

An emergency caffeine infusion from my favorite Vietnamese coffee shop, because I’ll need to be as alert as possible

(I’m streaming my very first playthrough of Silksong in about an hour in my Discord server! There’s still time to come join and hang out.)

I've been unearthing my old knitting projects and deciding whether to finish each one or repurpose the yarn. I don't often post about my knitting here, so I have no idea how many people this will make any sense to, but:
One does not simply frog a WIP with a double-knitted qiviut lining.
