Hello – common salutation
Hallo – folksy, whippersnapperish
Hullo – vaguely British, good for echoes
Hollo – a rare, somewhat jubilant holler
Hillo – archaic, not recommended for use
Hyllo – unclear (possibly a species of fruit fly)
Halloo – deployed only at great distances, the ICBM of greetings

A visitor once described loud laughs as lower class, nodding toward me at the restaurant table. It made me want to laugh with greater abandon. I love laughs so weird, and joyful that they interrupt restaurants, and briefly halt meetings down the hall. I love the way the laugh floats upward, outward.

This is a great podcast. This episode ranges from America's connection to Roman mythology to saving mental energy by not arguing with people on the internet. I laughed heartily.

Good guys move slower than bad guys and have less agency. This is a rule of narrative that is pretty broadly followed, not like in an academic sense, but if you read about genre screenwriting or novel writing or things of that sort, you will see it as common wisdom and it’s basically true

Back in my cozy bed. My neighbours on the plane bought me a glass of wine and invited me to a party, and my cab driver gave me his favourite recipe for Russian salad. Nice to leave home, always nicer to return.

I love the glimpses you get into peoples' lives in a big city. I love the feeling of anonymity. I also love how flat it is here. But, I'm already looking forward to breathing the fresh air of Newfoundland again.

Felt this article: "What we’re all feeling is grief. Not the tidy, private kind, but a vast, collective mourning that binds us together."
