This définition os science comes from the excellent "Science for the West, Myth for the Rest?" by Colin Scott (2011). I find it a useful definition that includes non-Western forms of science

"[A] social activity that draws deductive inferences from first premises, that these inferences are deliberately and systematically verified in relation to experience, and that models of the world are reflexively adjusted to conform to observed regularities in the course of events"

I think it was the wonderful map of rivers by JH Colton (1864) that inspired me to stretch out the geography

It's kind of scary how cold figures appear when the reality on the ground is hundreds of towns being uprooted for "development". In any case, it's not totally clear how trustworthy pop counts for forced displacements are, but the paper demands a closer look and possibly recalibration of sources END
