I desperately hope that we don’t need to do more than that.

Cosplay is not ordinarily my flavor of nerdiness but this is such a swank look

Reactionaries enthusiastic about the return of a feudal order tell me that hierarchical societies cultivate excellence and thus produce great art … but their actual avatars love “AI” slop and gaudy crap

Every day my phone buzzes. It is a neighborhood group: four people were kidnapped at the corner drugstore. A friend a mile away sends a Slack message: she was at the scene when masked men assaulted and abducted two people on the street.

(Even my dim childhoood memories of ‘Gold Monkey’ are super racist, so I dread looking back. Such is the problem of our inheritance of colonialist narratives.)

Or maybe start with a few pawns blocking the potential first-strike attacks?
November 5, 2025 at 8:11 PM
I had an idea for a chess variant —

Start without pawns.

Attacking a non-pawn demotes it to a pawn, rather than captures it. Attacking a pawn captures as normal.

Queens & rooks would have to be forbidden from attacking their counterparts until they have left their initial file.
