Though I didn't know him, the sudden, untimely, unfair passing of Peter Morwood leaves a horrible void in my usual online space. If you're so inclined, Ko-fi is a way to support his beloved Diane Duane at this time. ko-fi.com/dianeduane

Current mood: despairing about my ability to read every book I got through Overdrive before I have to return them. (Did find one irritating wonky thing in the Kobo integration, but it remains a pretty smooth integration that lets me bite off more than I have time to chew.)

Because my mother might see it elsewhere namespace, and that could distress her, last night's cooking show based realization is that all the recipes and the little metal recipe box are gone. The box of birthday candles (reused always) with the little wooden man who graced our cakes is gone.

On the plus side, I am taking the opportunity to use longish car rides to break in a pair of my "I was the target market" Docs.

It is now two weeks post-fire. We have hit the "everything is annoying me" part of the process. Sadly, this is not an actionable part of it, which is also annoying me.

There's no good time for an octogenarian to lose most of her documentation to a three-alarm fire, but "right before the Real ID deadline" is certainly up there with worst times. Signed, no memory of how long we have been at the DOL office. (Appointments are booked out to May.)

Anyhow, my childhood home, which my parents and siblings still live in (though one of each of those is current in a care facility) just had an electrical fire tonight, so my octogenarian mother is going to be crashing on my couch. Sadly, the inevitable meltdown must be delayed.

The living room smells like the hardcore laundry soap designed for workout clothes, as I finally washed the weighted blanket that still stank nauseatingly of a dog who passed six years ago. (It was in a plastic storage box. I wasn't using it reeking of Daisy, to be clear.)

The Depop issue is settled. (I am now unsure if the seller blocked me or if Depop was just being a pill, but after I filed my refund request, she filed a support one, and it got sorted.) Somewhere, lost in the USPS system, are a pair of cute boots, but my part in their story is now over.

On the one hand, emotional awareness re: why one might be feeling various ways is great, very healthy. On the other, however, it doesn't make one feel less like they're being nibbled to death by ducks.

Anyhow, enough talk from me about the current clusterfuckery of it all. Retaining a shred of joy in difficult times and all.

So at some point, my younger sibling's batshittery went full-on conspiracy theory, and apparently, everything since 2014 has been a psyop against us for the benefit of...something involving the military, I think. I kind of blocked it out.

I am not a vegetarian, let alone a vegan, but damn, I love Next Level Burger. (I discovered its fantasticness when I had to find reasonably priced vegetarian food when a friend from Jerusalem was in town last year. The Fire Chzburger is, in fact, fire.)

Much as I am keeping politics out of the account, not only is it a weird time being a birthright citizen, it's weird to see headlines about a grade school carpoolmate/FB friend in the context of the country exec filling his seat after friend won a different elected position.

I am not much into baseball (or sports in general these days), but I am a Seattle native, and I am thus required to inform everyone that that one guy who didn't select Ichiro in their HoF ballot should go to their room and think about what they've done.

In happier news, the Silent D Corries that I got on closeout do fulfill most of my desire for a pair of Prada Monolith Oxfords. (Shoes that aren't Docs? In my collection? It's more likely than you think!)

Interesting day to be a birthright citizen.

The first Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend episode since the start of the LA fires in which Sona lost her home is so freaking good. Genuinely one of their best episodes ever. It's genuinely moving, yet often hilarious. (Watch the video if you get a chance vs. just the audio version.)

Reasonably solid cup of decaf.

I hadn't actually planned on coming here for dinner, but our random drive took us ten minutes away from Twede's.

Plex people, speak to me of what I should be doing with my Plex! Give me advice on how to get the most out of it!

Why, when USPS has screwed up and started to send something back to the sender, despite everything on a package being correct, can't they fucking reroute it back to the original destination when the intended recipient, who had already filed a service request, contacts them?

Putting "Lynchian Normcore" in a Yuletide request one year and actually getting it remains a fannish high point. (For the Jenny Slate web series Catherine, which was at one point more than a decade ago how I self-soothed.)

Argh. One of the (many) new movies I saw last year was one I remember describing as a movie designed for me-as-a-teen, but which movie was it? No idea!
