my research assistant also wondering why 2024 was suddenly the year of questioning Middle English ‘canonicity’ (don’t get me wrong, we love it—but it comes up quite a bit in last year’s published work!) #medievalsky

Came back after 2 weeks working ‘from home’ to see the 2024 review books starting to roll in…can’t wait to get into some of these! #medievalsky

I’ve been back in the states for a week and it’s been, frankly, a lot for my nervous system to handle.

Not totally unrelated, here’s a cool Frida Kahlo work that really spoke to me in the “Frida: Behond the Myth” exhibit currently at the VMFA

Some of my other favorites in the exhibit: the earliest library ‘catalogue’ (Cod. Sang. 728, 9th c), a better lit look at the Faddan More Psalter, the Lough Kinale book shrine, and a marginal medieval cat-tiger-thing

WHAT A WEEK! @rarebookschool.bsky.social, thank you for facilitating such a brilliant time in Oxford. @drdavidrundle.bsky.social, thank you for sharing your deep well of knowledge and experience while also graciously answering every little question we threw at you. A week feels almost too short!

The heat in Christ Church Library tried to take us out yesterday, but this @rarebookschool.bsky.social class soldiered on for some time with several amazing manuscripts

This morning in RBS provenance: having a rousing refresher course in transcribing secretary hand & other early modern paleography. At what I’ve managed to recall after nearly 6 years, Liz Mullins would be proud.

Meanwhile, at home: someone is living her best life showing off for the pet sitter.

Finished moving offices today and have two temp setups while the next phase of construction gets underway at Boatwright. The library may be closed for the summer, but we library workers are still plugging away 👩‍💻

On Friday UR held its annual A&S Student Symposium, showcasing the work of undergraduate researchers. I was so deeply heartened by the breadth of topics in just this session!

Humanities research continues to be important. Support humanities students. Enable them to ask questions and find answers.

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is my dad’s favorite movie. I’ve seen it a fair number of times. But it feels more poignant and relevant than ever.

Happy World Down Syndrome Day! Shoutout to my bestest sister, Annie (who barely responds to my texts anymore unless food is involved). Reminder: EVERYONE in this country is entitled to equal access to education, and eliminating the DeptEd threatens that right.

Had a fantastic time at DMSI yesterday, thinking about more digital approaches to medieval studies. Getting to play around with photographing manuscripts at Houghton was a delight! Thanks to @lauramorreale.bsky.social and @nkivilcimyavuz.bsky.social for organizing another great event. #medievalsky

Received a valentine from the incredible folks over at @rarebookschool.bsky.social, and was just so surprised and delighted to see this book quote make an appearance (even more shocking, I got name dropped on the verso of the card).
