He's not harming anyone. He minds his own business. The most he does is dumpster dive for things the townsfolk no longer want - including some still good food. And he's shunned. It's a really interesting commentary by ConcernedApe that every walk of life is valuable even if you don't understand it.

Brett McKenzie was in it too! He was the body of the villager that was *spoiler* Jen’s love interest. He also wrote the songs for the movie.
