...technology to complete the process, causing the first 5 people roboticized to have their robotic parts mimic the Ancients' technology rather than Eggman's. Sage quickly fixed this problem, but could not reverse the process on these super-charged cyborgs.

That's what the tests are for! Clearing out all the kinks! It already has a ton of potential as is! :D
