Unstable as quicksilver and as perverse as a demon fresh from the pit
For those who may not know or have forgotten, I used to work in admissions at a tiny, super religious college in North Carolina. They treated me badly and misled a LOT of students.

Every once in a while, I look in on their webpage to see how things are going there (I've yet to be impressed).

Today would have been my grandparents' 60th wedding anniversary. This somehow hits harder than her birthday did back in August. It's the first year I didn't get to make a call to let my grandma know I was thinking of her on her special day.

But I'm still thinking of her, and my grandpa, always.

How many times will I have to explain to LinkedIn that I'm not hiring for ANYTHING? I don't hire. I barely have a job, much less any authority.

Me: (writes an email I mean to schedule to send to my advisor for this morning at like 9am)

Also me: (accidentally hits "send" instead of "schedule" at 3am)

...Oh well, she knows I'm a garbage fire anyway!

New book for my research!

I ordered it specifically for Micah Goodrich's chapter, but it all looks amazing.

please retire the phrase "i wish i had time to be depressed"

1) nobody has time to be depressed
2) depression doesn't care if you're busy
3) willing yourself to force through symptoms bc you have stuff to do is only effective for mild-medium depression, not severe
4) it's a shitty thing to say

Reminder for anyone who calls themselves a Christian:

When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God. (Leviticus 19:33-4)

Me: I'm gonna try to get some work done.

@yfmsilver.bsky.social: Let me know if I can help.

Me: You wanna write a chapter of my diss?

YFM: It might need some editing...

Me: What are your thoughts on Tis Pity She's a Whore and The Duchess of Malfi?

YFM: Um...most of the dudes in those suck butt?

In case you weren't sure, yes, I've always had a bizarre sense of humour. I made this one night in my Colonial and Federal Lit class. We were discussing Increase and Cotton Mather.

Once again, I'm saying that the expectation that everyone is up and active in the morning is bullshit. I do not function well before 11am. I'm only up right now because my kid has to get to school.

There is NO moral superiority about being an early riser, and no moral failing about being up late.

In search of perhaps a unicorn, but I'll ask the hivemind.

I want an across-the-body hardsided satchel/case with an over the top flap. I swear I've seen these in tv/movies, but my searches have not yielded anything like I'm picturing. I get a bunch of messenger bags and suitcases, neither is right

I'm gonna say this loud so the mouthbreathers in back can hear: if a man wears clothing, it's men's clothing. If a woman wears clothing, it's women's clothing. If a non-binary person wears it, it's enby clothing. Clothing has NO gender, no sexuality, no identity. It belongs to whoever buys/wears it

Please, for the love of all that's holy, stop saying "Anglo-Saxon." 1) it's inaccurate, 2) it's vague and frankly meaningless, and 3) [most crucially] it's a dog whistle.

I know many people who say it don't mean it that way, but it helps legitimize and encourage the ones who DO.

Random memory/trauma: many, many times as a teen and young adult, I had my weight policed by my grandma who raised me...always using phrases like "you don't want to get fat," or "you have a good figure if you don't gain weight."

I'm trying to do better as a mom.

Random thought of the day: if you know someone prefers a different name/version of their name, it's hella rude to refuse to call them by that.

My boss at an old job refused to call me "Sam," which I preferred, because she thought it wasn't feminine enough...she insisted on calling me "Samantha."

Me (unable to fall/stay asleep, hears my kid awake at 6am)

Me: Hey, baby, you still have two hours...try to get some more rest, okay?

My 12 year old: What are you doing up?? Why were YOU at the Devil's Sacrament??

Me (trying not to laugh): Never you mind, Goody Gale. Get some more rest.

Reminder that when asked what men should do about women being "too sexy," Jesus replied, “So if your right eye causes you to offend, pluck it out and cast it from you. For better it is for you that one of your members perish than that your whole body should be cast into Hell." (Matthew 5:29)

As an update, I can open the DMs in my office in Detroit, which is literally an hour north of my home.

I could drive 20 minutes from home and be in Michigan, where I can read my DMs without giving sketchy third parties access to my ID.

Fuck this fascist shit.
Because I won't share my ID with some random unvetted company and I live in Ohio, I can't read the message my friend sent me. @bsky.app is holding my DMs hostage because the state of Ohio hates queer folks.
