That's the thing: we know picture quality has more to do with bitrate and compression than resolution, and there are inherent disadvantages with interlacing vs. progressive scan. It couldn't have been 1080i. Makes me wonder if NBC's doing something others aren't.

Do you suppose some of the chatter at the start of the NBA season around NBC's PQ involves NBC's use of HDR and color gamut more than just their choice of 1080i over 720p?
