A 🧵on last night's late-night firing of (per NYT) 17 Inspectors General across federal agencies, starting w/gift link to article reporting what happened. Below, why this matters, was this legal, and what can be done now. /1
Gift link on late-night firing of a dozen+ Inspector Generals across fed agencies. IGs root out waste, fraud & abuse; hear whistleblower cplts; report to Congress on Exec Branch activities. Lawsuits will follow but this is a direct assault on Congress powers of purse & oversight. wapo.st/4azdaNb
Trump ousts at least 12 independent inspectors general in late-night purge
The dismissals appeared to violate federal law, which requires Congress to receive 30 days’ notice of any intent to fire a Senate-confirmed inspector general.

🧵 on all the fallout as the federal courts in DC try to figure out all of what Trump's 1/6 pardons mean. I'm not sure any one president has ever so swiftly and effectively earned the ire of R- and D-appointed judges alike on an entire federal bench.
SIDE NOTE: There are all kinds of ancillary issues cropping up w/ J6 dismissals. Judge Mehta notes that he may not be able to "dismiss" a conviction that has been finalized. Judge Bates wants to know whether he can still penalize a defendant for violations of release conditions.
