Translator’s Note The following extracts are selected from Before the Snowmelt (我所告訴你關於那座山的一切, lit. “Everything I’ve Told You about That Mountain”), the only published book by the late Taiwanese transgender writer Liu Chen-Chun. In 2017, during a hiking trip in Nepal, Liu and his partner Liang Sheng-Yueh (known as “Yueh” in Liu’s writing) were trapped in a mountain cave by a snowstorm. Forty-seven days later, the rescue team finally arrived and discovered that only Liang had survived.

It was an honor to write some reflections on @theoffingmag.bsky.social for our 10-year anniversary anthology.
It's a remarkable thing to be able to come together for a shared purpose. That is our strength. The Translation dept. at @theoffingmag.bsky.social is seeking a co-editor specializing in fiction to work with the amazingly talented @sbrookcorfman.bsky.social. It’s a chance to nurture emerging talent and community via a volunteer-run literary magazine dedicated to amplifying marginalized voices.
OFFING OPPORTUNITY: Translation Editor (Fiction) The Offing is looking for a Translation Department editor with a focus on fiction! We are looking for someone excited about the range of possible approaches to translation, who has experience in editorial work as well as in reading and/or speaking more than one language. A great candidate will be interested in creating editorial relationships with writers that are collaborative and interested in the translators' choices. The editor will read submissions, accept pieces, communicate editorial feedback, and develop a publication schedule with the other editor that results in the Translation Department publishing roughly two pieces a month. For a nonfiction writer interested in learning more about the editorial process at a literary magazine, @theoffingmag.bsky.social has an opening for an editorial assistant. The Offing is entirely volunteer-run but we pay contributors, so it’s a nice opportunity to give back to the literary community
Volunteer Opportunity: Insight Editorial Assistant The Insight department’s Editorial Assistant will support the Editor in reading submissions, gathering assets for publication, laying out essays in Wordpress, and communicating with authors during the publishing process.
