In this case, my two examples mean opposite things 😅
The first example means that you stop your current action and prepare your camera. The second example means that you put away your camera.
In comparison, I think the difference between “might” and “may” isn’t as complex.

Both infinitives ("I stopped to take a photo") and gerunds ("I stopped taking a photo").... They certainly can be confusing in English...

Do you mean infinitives specifically, where "to" comes before a verb? For example, it may be difficult "to understand" English until you have something "to eat" and something "to read".
