Rudy was a founding member who contributed much to our club including his church meeting space. He served as Treasurer until he sadly passed away. We met at his church until June of this year when that arrangement came to an end. We are in need of leaders who can help us grow again and support local fandom. Anyone who joins and is an established member can run for office. (We did have members who joined and became officers too quickly, so we added a waiting period to deter take overs.) I am VP eternal for now.

Special Events: Madcon

One year we attended Madcon, an event held at Madison, Wisconsin. The first photo is a panel that discusses women in fandom that published a book. Our featured guests included Harlan Ellison and Carole Barrowman.

Special Events: Concinnity (April or May)

After loss of Gencon in 2003, we needed something to replace that. Concinnity started with three main interests: gaming, science fiction/fantasy and anime.

It was first held at the Milwaukee School of Engineering Student Center, 3rd floor common area.
The Milwaukee School of Engineer Student Center is a common area with offices, meeting space, a cafeteria and classrooms. With a student center one can easily hold events with some educational benefit. It became a way to teach students how to run an event to develop leadership skills. (Events can fail to work or be cancelled as I have experienced.) One year we had special guest, Peter Mayhew (actor who played Chewbacca in Star Wars). We used an auditorium for large crowd presentations. You can check out past and upcoming events on the Concinnity website. It is truly a fun and easy one day event, currently held at the new technology building featuring ROSIE the supercomputer.

Koz's Minibowl - Standard bowling game rules but scaled for the rest of us. The balls are wooden. The pins are manually reset by young boys. It's still open and doing OK. (See Yelp!) It is fun to attend events even if it is not your top event to attend. Our member Christopher Cebula worked at the event. So it made sense to attend a game or too in support. You can see Debbie and Nick in the foreground. We did this in January for a couple of years. Glow Golf was an indoor mini golf game. It was OK and fun. But we were there when it was near the end of its tenancy at Southridge Mall. So we grabbed that fun while we could. The Dogs Bollocks is a British themed pub and restaurant. We met as a special event. It sadly closed and we lost a casual meeting place.

What can be more fun than sitting at a phone waiting to be called by random people to help collect money for PBS? And some did give money and were nice. Now it is done by services I suppose because some callers are not so nice. Each year up to the present, there was the lakefront fireworks show. It took hours to bring everyone together on the shore. And just a few hours for everyone to get home. Summerfest was nearby. Howard (closest person) was a founding member and served as Present and Treasurer. Sadly he passed away April 2023. It just made sense to enjoy back in time attractions. What better than to experience history than a day at Bristol Renaissance Faire in Bristol, Wisconsin? We were wandering Time Lords who enjoyed museums, the zoo and other ways to have local fun. Each June we had our summer picnic at various Milwaukee County park locations: Mitchell, Hoyt, Doctor's and the one in Greenfield. However, it has become expensive for a small group and the weather not always OK. So we turned to using one of our meeting place parking lots for free. Now we don't have that anymore. Are there any free park meeting places for small clubs?

35 Years!: Memories

In our early days as a club we were many. It was how to enjoy Doctor Who fandom. Fan clubs that attended public events may be why you are able to see DW and other shows now.

So many have moved on or passed away over time. Online is OK but meet ups are so much better.
From a newsletter printable black and white copy photo. Some members came in costume to our meetings. Normally we watched videos. Sometimes we brought and shared food. (Dalekmas every year in December.) 1990's era of our club. One of our founding members, Linda Kelly, was one of our most personable members of our club who always came in a costume. We do not know her fate. Some members drifted off or moved away and perhaps moved on to other things. We have lost members over the years as well.

Celebrity Meet Ups - Photos

We also learned about shows like Blake's 7.
Plus Red Dwarf and others when shows like that were not known to the US. It was PBS that led us to British TV.

Visions ran from 1990 to 1998. Admin of the website attended each one.

Our Meetings
We meet twice a month on Saturday from 5 pm to 9 pm. Our last meeting was December 21, 2024. Our first meeting space is very small. Our second meeting place is at Old Guard Games. We seek better space for our 1st meetings of the month. It is hard to find free space for small clubs.
