Color! Blue watercolor background, faces pretty much done, working our way outward.

Though I may need to untape it, iron it flat, and retape it before continuing. It didn't dry flat enough for me after the watercolor like this paper usually does 🤔

Anyway. Sketch of gift art for my neighboring Baron & Baroness because they're awesome and also got me a lovely thoughtful Midwinter gift & I want to do something lovely for them in return. (If you know the Righ Tuatha in question, shhhhh)

The up-thread illustration, but completed. The buttes have shadows, and there is the impression of dark green shadowed foliage in the foreground to midground, trailing up the butte sides and base.

More random acts of art. Work in Progress - my only excuse for this was I had old seasons of "Outback Opal Hunters" on in the background while I worked on another project.

I forgot to take a "before" pic but it was linework and the white lightning and a little shading on the leading edge of the wings.

I dunno what the lighting is doing with the clouds but it's cool I guess

One of the things I do for #mySCA kingdom (or really just anyone who asks) is make magnetic name badges.

I got the idea from an SCA #ScribalArt discord, & started w/ people teaching at or in charge of our Newcomers event.

& it kinda spiralled from there 😅

here's some examples of ones I've done
The most recent batch of badges - painted but not yet sealed or backed. A big batch of name tags, completed. Some have ribbons attached declaring titles or officer roles. One I did special: instead of painted white first, it is stained a light walnut color, and then the letters are painted on top of that. It was finished with bails so it could be hung on a ribbon instead of magnet pinned. The first batch I did for teachers at our Newcomers event, to make it as Newcomer friendly as possible. There are labels out ribbons with titles or roles on some of them.

I get to play #exalted again this weekend for the first time in a _while_ so get an art dump of characters
A chibi-fied lineup of almost all my exalted characters, 12 of them, with appropriate height scaling. Qismet, on the left, is the shortest guy, and Kallias, on the right, the tallest. A black & white & gold pencil and ink drawing of my three Zenith caste Solar exalted. Pyrrhus is top center, his hands clasped in prayer. Sneak, at bottom right, holds her artifact spear. Zaela, at bottom left, smiles shyly from beneath her crown. Cover art for my fan novel, Quickburned. At the right of the image, backlit by a desert mountain sunset, is the dawn caste Solar, Caleb Wraith. He is dressed in desaturated blues in a vaguely 1880s cowboy style: waistcoat and shirt with the sleeves rolled up, a large gold buckle just barely visible. There are orichalcum gold "pistols" at his hips, and a "rifle" resting on his shoulder. A red scarf is draped around his neck, and he looks off to the right contemplatively.

I'll post a proper write up with better pictures on my SCA blog when this is actually complete, but here's the scroll I've been working on for the last few months. I did not finish by the deadline due to being fiercely attacked by life, but it was in a presentable state.
For Andreas' MoD elevation:
An award scroll for the SCA - a peerage elevation. The top half is a great many small figures surrounding the recipient's heraldry. There are creatures for the supporters, important people from his life, meaningful figures from his fencing history (eg from historical fencing manuals), and the heraldry of the places he's lived. The bottom of the illustrated half has a scene of the recipient fencing with a crowd of people, including his friends and family, watching. The bottom of the image is very tiny black letter calligraphy of the German translation of the text of his award (based off language of historical fencing masters being recognized by their schools and guilds)

The painting from previous posts is finished. The western kingbird is fully rendered, including the barb wire perch. A circle of blue sky has been painted behind the bird, with a ring of metallic gold around it to give it some shine.

Today's progress!

Gouache is very different from but also weirdly similar to watercolor. The way I can layer opacity works much better with the way my brain handles color than watercolor's glazing methods.

I hope it's looking good to other eyes than mine 😅
More of the painting in the above post: the western kingbird is almost fully rendered except for the feet and the barbed wire it perches on. It is a gray bird with a yellow and cream belly and dark gray-brown wings and tail. Some further blending needs to be done at the transition from gray to yellow, and at the cream patch at the throat.
