I went to college once, but all they found were rats in my head
One month on, C is addicted and anxious when the jar is running low and tells me to go by the big Waitrose on the way home for more Chinese leaf. Down the kimchi mines, feel like the dad from Parasite

Now that Marias and Kadare are gone, I think Olga Tokarczuk is my favourite living author. Her new one is a mash-up of The Magic Mountain and The Wicker Man, and definitely did not disappoint.

In yet another example of the cultural hegemony enjoyed by South Korea these days, we have had a go at making kimchi.

Found this hawk trapped on the outside of our building at work. Opened the cage to help it escape and it promptly killed and ate a pigeon. Perhaps a metaphor.

Van Gogh: worth seeing but if that's how busy it is at 5pm I dread to think what it's like at 11am

Rumours of a one-hour queue are unfounded. Enshittification of Sam Smiths (if they could get any worse): they won't serve you upstairs at the Chandos unless you're having food. Flight of the Conchords guy at the bar seems to enjoy telling people.

In an unusually early 2000s move, we went to a warehouse party in Shoreditch last night and saw some new bands. We were the only people without baseball caps, moustaches, or football scarves that turn out not to be for any football team.

More bad news for Millwall, as it is revealed that Murray Wallace will also be unavailable for Saturday's game- the Scottish defender has had a call-up from Masterchef to replace Gregg Wallace.

Murray Wallace... *takes long drag of cigarette and states into the middle distance* ...haven't heard that name in a looooong time

Les Contes d'Hoffmann is humourous and full of bangers. Would recommend.

Having pre-opera booze at the pub opposite the ROH and my sixth sense is telling me that I'm in the pub from Frenzy

Crazy pub with freizes of friars making wine etc, and a dining room at the back that looks like a chapel

Hate seeing old photos of Belfast and realising that in 1900, the ugly city where you grew up looked like Florence

Some Fridays you just have to book the day off, window shop on Piccadilly, watch two Chinese girls play Brahms under the magnificent carvings of Grinling Gibbons, eat a foccacia the size of your head from Fortnums, and end up in this little jewel.

There is a brilliantly evil turn by Emily Watson as the Mother Superior. I often think that Emily Watson looks a lot like Jim Kerr:

Anyone ever noticed that the inside of a cheese grater looks like a rap video from the early 2000s?
