Someone who got this most critical decision so spectacularly wrong with such tragic consequences, should not be allowed anywhere near public health administration, much less a leadership role.
Journalists, Dr. Jay Bhattachayra wanted to maximize infections in unvaccinated people under 70 or so, because he thought this would lead to herd immunity in 3-6 months.

Not telling this to readers is to misinform them.

Plenty more examples are available.

I can tell you categorically as a statistician there is nothing in the data I worked with to support Bhattacharya's GBD claims. Herd immunity was a myth then and it's a myth now. The way to protect a popn is targeted NPIs + vaccines, not pushing them to get infected by a spreading pathogenic virus.

Yes. And we warned CDC & HHS the populations were too intermixed, between students, parents, their community, the elder care workers living in those communities & working with the vulnerable. The whole GBD was an ideologically contrived argument with zero scientific or historical evidence support.
My god. This heat map by @cygnus2358.bsky.social is devastating to Jay Bhattcharya's notion of focused protection.
This heat map is from my Ontario Canada work in 2020. As you can see, Bhattcharya's GBD claim that the older more vulnerable groups could shelter as the younger got infected was horribly wrong. @adamjkucharski.bsky.social
