A custom-made thumbnail for the ongoing 2010 web series "DEATH BATTLE!" by Ben Singer, a show about a hypothetical battle between two or more fictional characters, often from different franchises and with clear thematic similarities, that analyzes each character's history, characterization and abilities, among other interesting facts, to then declare a winner by way of an animated fight scene. This custom thumbnail depicts Muppet character Oscar the Grouch from Sesame Street on the left, and his opponent, Gerbemon (officially localized in English material as "Garbagemon") from Digimon on the right. The commonality between the two characters, as already evident in the thumbnail, would be that both are monsters residing in garbage cans.

A still frame taken from "Don't Be", the 22nd episode of critically acclaimed 1995 deconstructive mecha anime "Neon Genesis Evangelion", produced by the now-defunct anime studio GAINAX and directed by Hideaki Anno. The image in question depicts the infamous "elevator scene" featuring characters Asuka Langley Souryuu, leaning irritably against the wall, and Rei Ayanami, standing directly before the door with a demure expression. The scene's infamy stems from being a still shot of this very frame lasting around 53 seconds, thought to be a means of circumventing the animation budget constraints. However, the narrative context, sounds of mechanical ambience, and easily discernable visual contrasts between the two characters and their emblematic frames of mind make for a scene that many argue builds up tension towards the brief conflict between the two characters that follows soon hereafter.
