Meanwhile every article I read about Americans living in Europe have them praise the quality and affordability of healthcare in Europe

Historically, the authoritarian tendencies tend to be triggered rather than being a constant force: the feeling of threat (both in personal life or media land and) as well as demagogues able to skillfully convey a feeling of threat. Not hard to retrace what lead to the current situation in the US

There was a South Park episode where the men doing hunting explained that they don’t have permission to shoot the animals, but they need yell “it’s coming right at us” to have a qualified reason to shoot and somehow this dark parody is as relevant as ever

I think most people drawn to demagogues lack any real rational framework for doing so, so the cling to the pseudo-intellectual as a life jacket to try to add some credibility to their worldview that according to them stands up to rational argumentation (it doesn’t, but they don’t realize it)

Those of us who remember when George W. declared victory

Also, the promise of religious freedom kinda led many people with strong unorthodox beliefs to move to America, so the underlying religious fabric is poorly suited to monoculture to begin with

This makes me curious about the garment’s history, since hunting is not an activity one does every day, for example my grandfather hunted once a week, so unlikely that there would be a coat just for that. Now it might still be called that, but used for all sorts of other things too

You can print a photo and carefully paint over it. Then if you need duplicates, re-shoot the retouched print and print it again

Social media and its use needs a reform, and it’s a super interesting and consequential problem of balancing freedoms with protections

It’s a problem when you start obsessing about details and are eyeing the perfect fit, quality materials, solid workmanship and beautiful look all in one garment

Apparently the FIFA board and vice chairman were surprised by this announcement. Keeping in mind previous shady dealings of FIFA, it’s hardly out of character. No wonder the European Football Association is annoyed with FIFA

I think that in business, the problem is people who are good at relationships, appearances and office politics; weak leaders prefer the company of those

I think the buttoning point is the biggest issue (and the abysmal product photography), it’s the opposite of elegant

I mean this is an excellent training clip for spotting weaknesses in arguments and drawing conclusions unsupported by the facts presented

When someone says “that’s just a fact” on a statement that obviously is oversimplifying a claim that’s very complicated to begin with is a sure sign that it’s best to disregard the someone entirely

Yup and that’s pretty telling of why we can’t have nice things

The obvious explanation that they just aren’t very smart but that they’re vindictive zealots might be too obvious

There’s easily more than 100 million people in the world who’d be tempted to make easy money posting on social media sock puppet accounts when considering their other income options. Meanwhile there are people intellectually challenged enough to take the accounts at face value

How can Amazon Q be news? I’d think everyone watches what the big players bring to the table and case in point, my org has been trialing it for months now

I think that there are still plenty of brands that care about quality and either make things themselves or use reputable contractors. Living in Europe, I gravitate towards clothes that are made in Europe by brands that stand behind their product
