My take is we need a new God.

When we raise kids or grow ourselves we constantly optimize something. But for what ultimate purpose? 200 years ago it was implied - for the glory of god.

So we need to replace that. I say space travel. Not naively, it's super hard. But really, we need a purpose.

The feminine is rightly afraid of the out of control masculine, so they tame it with stories, food, and dances, both figurative and literal.

I'm scared of being hungry and scared of eating too much. That basically explains the rest of me.

Eating a cookie is a fundamentally hopeless act, in agreement that tomorrow is not promised.

What a dilemma! I very much feel that way and like cookies. But this is a bad way to live perhaps.

Apple is now using Microsoft's Open AI, running on Google servers. Smells very singularity-ish.

When you're young, threading a needle is hard. You don't have the right skills yet, your muscles don't know what to do. As you get older, it becomes hard again, your muscles are forgetting and your eyes are failing. But you know the hole is there, it's possible. That knowing helps.

My thoughts keep coming back to shame. I think we're doing shame wrong. Shame is useful when done well, it can keep us in line with social norms and social norms can be powerful abstraction for healthy habits. Like peace, self care, dignity, and so on. In excess though, maybe it backfires.

If the great sculptors of the old world could see their statues now, they would've sculpted some of them hats.

I dislike wine and opera and other painfully loud things. The universe is already screaming with beauty, no need to turn up the volume.

One little Streptococcus can ruin so many plans...

Only snow day of the year, an evening out to see Colbert with my love, a new intern's first day, a demo at work, and meeting up with friends to plan a multi-cultural festival. Sprinkle some bacteria and poof, gone.

When we feel we need something, we either get it or give up. So it's all about how we come to need and what we do about it.

I am surprised by how often I hear or say "we don't use our head as a weapon". It's just not something I thought was a big part of parenting, and I was wrong by a surprising margin.

Cobra Kai is sneaky. It seems all silly but it's actually incredibly well conceived. Using plot holes from the movies as drinking stories is brilliant.
