My read of this is that it's less concern over the draft itself and more a lot of Dems being (reasonably) perceived as hawkish. The number of them who were buds with pieces of shit like Kissinger comes to mind, Obama's drone warfare, Biden's enablement of Israel. The list goes on.

Definitely more invested in opposing the people footing the bill element than the project itself—although I also don't love that it's going to involve a ton of new natural gas power generation.

Any advice or recommended reading for successfully opposing these projects beyond getting people to show at the council meetings?

Semi-relatedly I recall a recent episode mentioning how data centers are getting away with incentives and passing on costs to consumers by pretending they're the same kind of infrastructure investment as, y'know, actual grid improvements. Indianapolis is currently entertaining one of these.

earlier, in time for open primaries, but that data was uncomfortable and the party was unified in the fully unevidenced belief that the numbers were wrong or that they'd magically change. There are a lot of lessons in it I plan to carry forward to be a part of avoiding the dynamics that led to this.

Biden from public view and just talking up how sharp he was behind the scenes. Party elites and super plugged in people like me bought that until that crash and burn debate performance, but we were way out of step with most people by doing so. We had all the data we needed to make the call way

The main thing is that his polling was kind of horrifyingly shit well in advance of officially launching his reelection campaign. Really significant majorities saying he was too old. They pressed on and cooked up excuses as to why that would change even while adopting a strategy of trying to shield
