Yeah, there's no competition (yet) for Google Maps on restaurant and other local services searches, unfortunately. I really don't want to go for Apple either, and OpenStreetMaps is just lacking too much still.

There's also the option of going for DDG first, then if those results don't work jump over to Google. I've been doing this for a couple years, and even though it's a bit of a nuisance to switch the search tool somewhat often, it's a good deed that should be done to diminish Google's dominance.
