My hometown Jyväskylä is one of the first to go live, I believe: a 800 MWh thermal battery is being commissioned this year. It's the size of an apartment building, give or take.

This should be helpful in terms of total energy usage, but...

... in cities with district heating, a thermal battery may be of tremendous value: ability to store electricity from variable sources (wind, mostly) when there's high supply as heat, and then release that stored heat to district heating networks (instead of burning wood).
