Our core question was whether belief in God amplified intergroup cooperation or reduced it. As shown below, we found consistent evidence that people were more trusting of ingroup AND outgroup members when they knew their partner would think about God! This increased trust was generally warranted!

Now out in JPSP! Behavioral economic experiments w/ Christians, Muslims, Hindus, and Jews in the U.S., Israel and Fiji show that belief in God can facilitate cooperation, even across religious divides! Sure, media needs to make money to report, but it's concerning when basic news (the government taking children of migrant families into custody) becomes "for subscribers only." It's almost as if CNN wants enraged liberals to pay to stay enraged more than it wants to shape broader public opinion.

Trump's planning to sign an executive order to combat anti-Christian bias. In a recent article in @psychscience.bsky.social, my colleagues (led by @marahalkire.bsky.social) & I show that such political appeals can serve as potent racial dog whistles.

Just 2 weekends left! Back in my home state of PA today. I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I sure don’t want to look back feeling like I could have done more. There are still so many ways to get involved, no matter where you are!

With deep respect for the tremendous work of Washington Post journalists, and hope that journalistic freedom can survive to hold our leaders (political and oligarchical) accountable.

Every day counts! 67 doors knocked today in Michigan. Back at it tomorrow. More Trump signs than I wish, but at least one undecided voter converted to a lean Harris! There are so many ways to do our part. To the academics out there, it’s ok to prioritize democracy over that extra pub. 19 days!

The DNC's reclaiming of patriotism has had me thinking about this recent paper from UIC grad student Vlada Trofimchuck and her then Colby professor (now UIC professor) @jinxungoh.bsky.social. So curious to know if this reclaiming shifts perceptions!
