The UK spends proportionately less on HE than many comparable countries. And yet it has internationally excellent universities that yearly attract 100s of 1000s of students from around the world. Meanwhile, government treats the sector with a mix of indifference and hostility. I don't get it.

We're 300 followers away from 70,000. 300 more would be really nice. But you know what would be even better? 300 plus 30,000.
